I didn't eat my first persimmon until 2002. I remember this because it was an event, that's how delicious persimmons are. I had been wondering what is that odd looking orange'ish-yellow tomato that's not a tomato sitting amongst all the fruit in China Town in NYC ....

Tis' the season for a little .... detox. Heavy foods, lots of imbibing, and a constant parade of opportunities for the two makes for a sometimes great desire to detox.

Puffball, the Mushroom

I would like to introduce to you the wild puffball mushroom featured in the picture above. It can grow to be the size of a massive pumpkin or it can be a soccer ball like the one you see here.

Medicinal Orangettes

I have always loved orangettes (sans chocolate), they're bitter, sweet, slightly toothy, and just plain lovely. I don't particularly like sickly sweet treats and I've always been more on the savory or flavorsome punch side.
