Kamwo Pharmacy : New York

on Fri, 08/07/2009 - 13:30

There is many a belated post to put on here from the last two weeks, with my trip to New York for a work seminar followed by a trip to Colombia for a wedding after that, I have fallen behind! First, I'll back track and share a few pictures from Kamwo Pharmacy in New York, where I did an externship in 2002 whilst getting my M.S. in Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Peachy Clean

on Thu, 07/23/2009 - 13:30

Just a quickie before I am off to New York for a work training weekend... I picked up some lovely peaches at the farmers market yesterday.

Horseradish in Summer Combat

on Mon, 07/20/2009 - 13:30

Summer is finally sweltering and heating all of us up now that we're well into July. That warm loveliness that bakes you on the outside is more than likely making you want to cool your insides with cold or raw foods.

Truffle Salt

on Mon, 07/13/2009 - 13:30

You may recall that I wrote about truffles and truffle pigs (which hunt truffles) some time ago. I also wrote about salt not too long after that.

What's in Season

on Thu, 07/09/2009 - 13:30

Eating locally and seasonally: I've been thinking about this for quite some time, but I have not gone so far as to really delve into it daily and properly. I do love eating this way not only for the amazing flavor difference but also because yes, it helps the environment by reducing travel for food.

Gin, Ginger, and Lemongrass

on Wed, 06/24/2009 - 13:30

If you want want to drink a cocktail that is refreshing and (technically) healthy, then go for a gin, ginger, and lemongrass cocktail this summer! Gin was originally brewed as a medicinal liquor. You can make your ginger flavored gin from scratch by infusing your gin with fresh slices of ginger or you can just simply buy a tasty ginger ale brand, mix one part of gin with 3 parts ginger ale, one stick of lemon grass, and a splash of fresh lime juice and you're all set! If you want to make it from scratch:

What Water Tastes Like

on Wed, 06/17/2009 - 13:30

I love water but I don't think about it enough. I don't spend time tasting it though I remember the specific moments when it actually tastes delicious or tastes bad. In between the delicious and the bad there is a lot of murkiness. Two thirds of our bodies are composed of water.

Water

on Tue, 06/16/2009 - 13:30

I am going to post about water later this evening, with trepidation... I've been learning a lot about it myself as of late and while it's not that dire, it's been eye opening. Water is obviously vital to our survival, I might even go so far as to say that it is at the top of the list in terms of importance. There is a lot of variety in the quality of water, it's not just water is water, there are different tastes, minerals, ways of processing, etc, and each kind has it's energetic significance to our health. In Chinese Medicine and in any medicine, water is what nourishes us and often is overlooked as being a healing source. Most people simply don't drink enough good water, either from lack of access or lack of habit.

What's in Your Local Store

on Fri, 06/12/2009 - 13:30

Just went on a quick jaunt to the grocery store, specifically Trader Joe's, to stock up on food supplies for the weekend as well as some basics.

Healing Wines and Liquors

on Tue, 06/09/2009 - 13:30

Alcohol (wine, liquor, etc) was a prescribed medicinal long before it arrived in a martini glass. I can see how people might potentially get rather excited about healing with alcohol, it would be oh so convenient! Perhaps the whole concept of medicine brings to mind sterile green hued rooms, uncomfortable exams, or poor tasting pills and tinctures and that's why a healing wine might seem to come in extra handy in the midst of all this poking and prodding.
