What's Up Doc?

The Little Fish

on Thu, 09/24/2009 - 13:30

I love little fish. All of them. Sardines, mackerel (the small and the larger ones), herring, anchovies, smelt, kippers, and on and on. Here's the wonderful medicinal news on them: they are excellent in every which way.

The End of Summer

on Thu, 09/10/2009 - 15:30

I always drag out each season to the last possible minute, and then some. I was still stewing dinners, warm and slow, when June came around. Even though by then winter was long gone. And now, at the last possible minute as the fall is inching it's way in, I finally managed to put together a gazpacho. Last of the tomatoes, the peppers, and the cucumbers for 2009 (at least seasonally speaking).

Medicinal Orangettes

on Thu, 09/03/2009 - 16:30

I have always loved orangettes (sans chocolate), they're bitter, sweet, slightly toothy, and just plain lovely. I don't particularly like sickly sweet treats and I've always been more on the savory or flavorsome punch side.

Garbanzo Love

on Tue, 09/01/2009 - 13:30

Yesterday as I was perusing some Trader Joe's products I had a taste of some Indian inspired chick pea concoction (chana masala) and it tasted so wonderful I quickly read the back of the ingredients and came home to cook something that would at least

Babies and Pies

on Thu, 08/27/2009 - 14:30

Ever wonder what a good alternative present would be to give someone who just gave birth? It's been a while since I posted a proper full on recipe and so I thought I'd share a recent dish I made for two women who just had beautiful babies. Often I am asked to share, prescribe, or cook medicinal foods for specific conditions or situations.

Farm Fun

on Wed, 08/26/2009 - 13:30

I just read an article in today's New York Times 'Dining & Wine' section that sent me to this lovely link (Rural Bounty) where you can search all the farms local to you, along with CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture), wineries, pick your own fruit places, farmers markets, farm stores, events, and farm lodging. If you are so inclined to explore this type of thing (I am, at every opportunity I get). Here it is.

The Silky News on Corn

on Wed, 08/19/2009 - 16:30

Since corn just happens to be in season and I also just happen to be getting a lot of patients which I have prescribed this decoction for, I thought I would share it on here. It also has such a lovely name: corn silk.

Travelling Medicine: Colombia

on Tue, 08/11/2009 - 13:30

Summer and it's lovely slow heat has finally gotten me, coupled with a few trips (to New York and Bogota), I have been neglecting the spice doc updates!

Kamwo Pharmacy : New York

on Fri, 08/07/2009 - 13:30

There is many a belated post to put on here from the last two weeks, with my trip to New York for a work seminar followed by a trip to Colombia for a wedding after that, I have fallen behind! First, I'll back track and share a few pictures from Kamwo Pharmacy in New York, where I did an externship in 2002 whilst getting my M.S. in Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Peachy Clean

on Thu, 07/23/2009 - 13:30

Just a quickie before I am off to New York for a work training weekend... I picked up some lovely peaches at the farmers market yesterday.
